History:

Sam started setting tile in the summer of 1984 working on renovation jobs with his brother, John in Charleston South Carolina. While picking up some tile at a local tile supply store for a renovation job, Sam saw a sign on the bulletin board – “Tile Setters Needed”. This led to a seven month long job setting tile at the Charleston International Airport. Working seven days a week this job gave Sam a foundation in commercial tile work. After the airport job finished Sam went to work on a new mall project in Charleston, the Northwoods Mall. During and after the mall job Sam was hired to tile several store fronts which led to a tile contracting business that saw Sam and his crew tile many subdivisions in the Charleston area. The competitive tile industry in the Charleston area led Sam to move to Charlotte, N.C. in the winter of 1993. Sam gained valuable experience working for almost a year on the NFL Panthers Stadium setting marble and ceramic tile. The next year and a half saw a lot of traveling from Rusty Wallace’s residence on Lake Wylie to Lynhaven Mall in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The travel was not good for family life, so Sam responded to an ad for work on Sea Island, Georgia in 1996. This was a good move where Sam gained experience running crews, setting tile, granite/marble tops, cast stone; during this time Sam gained a true appreciation for custom high-end residential work. Sam started his own buisness once again in the summer of 2004, thinking he was going to be doing mission work in Sundance, Wyoming he decided to call the company Sundance Tile and Stone . Even though it seems God closed the door for this type of mission work, Sam is on a mission to provide high quality custom tile, marble, and granite installations and to run a business that will be honoring to God. Since starting Sundance Tile and Stone in 2004 Sam has been blessed with many opportunities for custom work, a few of which can be viewed on these pages. Many more examples can be viewed by visiting his showroom.
